About the Blog

Food. Feed. Fed. started as a blog about the process of cooking as an easy way for family members to share ideas, ask each other questions, and explore the world of food and food prep. Didn’t quite take off.

And then we landed a small plot in our local community garden here in San Francisco. As soon as the first plants went in the ground, we started taking photos, keeping poorly updated logs, and so on. And so Food. Feed. Fed. was reborn to share our bumbling adventure through the world of organic city gardening.

Maybe you’ll learn something here, or at least from our mistakes!

Garden details:

  • Location: San Francisco. This means an almost year-round growing season.
  • Method: Organic. The whole point of this exercise is to feed ourselves better, cheaper food.
  • Plots: Two. Plot #1 measures approximately 4 ft x 8 ft; plot #2 clocks in at around 3 ft by 9 ft. That’s a lot of feet in which to grow food for only two people, so any surplus will be given away to friends and/or given away at the local free farmers market.
  • Skill level: (Very) amateur.

Why bother?

Really, we’re just a couple of crazy kids trying to make sense of this mixed-up world by trying to grow some food. Also, we figured we ought to be ready for the coming apocalypse by growing some food. Oh, and we got sick of spending so much money elbowing our way through the yuppies at Whole Foods just to get our hands on some decent organic produce.
